Capitol College is one of the nation's oldest and most celebrated technical colleges. Its history dates back to 1927, when it was founded as the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute. As the campus offerings evolved, so did the name. First it became the Capitol Institute of Technology, acknowledging a new focus on engineering technology. Finally, in 1987, Capitol College expanded yet again to include programs in electrical engineering and telecommunications, as well as to provide student housing, a cooperative education program and a large auditorium.
Fitting this broader appeal, the school changed its name to Capitol College in 1987.
Today, Capitol College specializes in computer science, information technology, engineering and business, undergraduate and graduate study programs. In addition, Capitol College is an active partner with NASA and provides summer courses in engineering for minority students. Recent additions include the McGowan Center for Innovative Teaching and the NASA Space Operations Institute.

Capitol College is situated on a beautiful suburban campus in unincorporated Prince George's County, an area just south of Laurel, MD. The campus is considered part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area and is served by Dulles International Airport.
Prospective students are encouraged to visit Capitol College during one of the Fall or Winter Open Houses. Typically four are offered per year, two in the fall and two in the winter. For a less formal appointment, campus tours are conducted by the Office of Admissions on weekdays throughout the year. For graduate students, a "Virtual Open House" program gives you the opportunity to experience an interactive online classroom environment. This is an extension of the Capitol Online Internet learning program offered by Capitol College.
